KENT
EN PLATS I SOLEN
ALBUM SONY RELEASE: JUNE 24, 2010 REVIEW: JULY 20, 2010

Surprise, a new Kent album! This just came out of nowhere, only eight months after the excellent “Röd” album. “En plats i solen” continues the band's journey into electronic music, flirting with both synthpop and minimal house. There are still guitars though, and the sound is as always unmistakable Kent.

The album has a slightly spontaneous feeling to it, which might be because of the short production period, but it fits the sound well. Some of the tracks like “Ismael” and “Skisser för sommaren” are among their best songs ever in my opinion, and although there are some duff tracks here like “Respekt ärlighet kärlek” (I know some people love it, but it just sounds a bit awkward to me) it’s a really strong bunch of songs. The lads also seem to have discovered the effects a beautiful string section can bring to a composition, which makes me a happy man indeed.

It’s not up there with “Du och jag döden”, but it still shows Kent can do no wrong.
