YVONNE
HIT THAT CITY
ALBUM LED, UNIVERSAL RELEASE: MAY 28, 2001 REVIEW: MAY 22, 2001

Some people may have heard the single "Bad Dreams", which has been played frequently on the radio. I can imagine that a couple of fans freak out, since that song differs from the traditional Yvonne sound. I would describe it as sounding like some kind of modern American funky rock thing, whatever that says. When the refrain starts, you hear that Yvonne are holding the gear and that is when it gets interesting.
Those who don't like it can calm down, since the rest of the album goes in a more, for Yvonne, traditional guitar wave style. The single choice is rather strange, since there are stronger and better songs on the album, although I like "Bad Dreams" as well.
We have the rockier "Burning Cars", and the cool'n'catchy "Enough Is Enough", which is a favourite of mine. Actually, there are a number of catchy songs with more or less hit potential. Apart from these, there are also calmer songs with a sad edge. The title track and "Lost in the City Nights" are good examples of that. The latter have a great female guest vocalist (Karin Dreijer of Honey Is Cool and The Knife) making it a duet.
Sometimes, I think Yvonne sound like a rock version of The Mobile Homes in their early days and the same goes for a tune or two on "Hit That City". Most songs on this album are very enjoyable, although there are less interesting, but no crap songs. I establish that this works fine and later on when I look back, I will probably say that Yvonne delivered one of the Swedish top albums in 2001!
