VISIONS OF EXCESS
SENSITIVE DISRUPTION
ALBUM MINUS HABENS RELEASE: MARCH 5, 2002 REVIEW: MARCH 1, 2002

Paul Browse (ex-Clock DVA) has been in hiding in Berlin for years, working with a bunch of anonymously titled projects this reviewer has never heard of. Teaming up with Nirto Karsten Fischer, a successful mass media sound designer, it seems he might have found the means to again win greater recognition.
In line with the concept of Clock DVA, Visions of Excess is an intellectual venture with lots of philosophical jargon and scientific imagery. Much like Timothy Leary and William S Burroughs teamed up with rockers in their later years, legendary novelist and conspiracy kook Robert Anton Wilson has been invited to lay down vocals on a few tracks. Browse's dark electronics harkens back to the threatening, relentless moods of Klinik and, of course, Clock DVA. Fischer tries to balance the act by interspersing cinematic themes somewhat less brutal. It is definitely head music, demanding your full listening attention and making it somewhat tiring in the long run.
Visions of Excess also signals a new start for the veteran Italian electronica label Minus Habens and its sub label Disturbance, responsible of numerous quality releases since 1987. For some eccentric Italian grooves, look out for the "Italo by Dati" album by Dati on Disturbance.
