TYSKE LUDDER
DIASPORA
ALBUM BLACK RAIN RELEASE: MARCH 25, 2011 REVIEW: APRIL 21, 2011

When Tyske Ludder released their fourth album "Anonymous" in 2009 I got interested in the band again. After two albums in the 90:s and two albums in the 00:s it's now time for the band to step into their third decade with "Diaspora".

Just like before this is quite testosterone-filled EBM, but done with a feeling and a will to evolve that I often lack in this genre. This album does have one big problem though, and that's the classic trap of making an album that is just too long; the first limited edition holds 16 tracks and almost 74 minutes is too much in one go. The regular version has only 13 tracks, but even then it's a bit too much. They should have slimmed it down, skipped some of the weaker tracks and this album would have been much more interesting. However there are some really good songs to be found here, and in particular I enjoy the more experimental ones. "Wallfahrt (Betonkater Edit)" for instance has a nice popfeeling in the chorus that is very haunting and I also really like "Der androgyne Held" which is the type of danceable brutal EBM that this band is so good at.

As I told you before the album comes in a limited edition with three extra songs. These are the ones I tend to listen to over and over again. "Abgesang" is good from the start, but in a remix by Northborne (a band that deserves more attention by the way) it's excellent and works even more perfectly on the dancefloor. The cover on "Merciless" by Tilt! is impossible to stand still too and "Maschinenstar (Minimal)" is EBM stripped down to an innovative and interesting creation.

As a whole album it's just a bit too many fillers on here. But when it peaks, its really good.
