THE LIGHT BULB PROJECT
GO!
ALBUM LOW HIDE RELEASE: MAY 12, 2004 REVIEW: MAY 17, 2004

I wonder why it is still so unusual with girls-only electronic bands? There must be lots and lots of talented women out there. But they are extremely hard to find in more “organised” form. Anyway, The Lightbulb Project is made up of the three Swedish girls Christina Roos, Hanna Göranson and Emma Bates. Together, they make happy indie-electro-disco that quickly gets my feet moving. To be perfectly honest though, I don’t really like the unpolished indie style singing, but if you do there are some gems to be found on the album. While I’m sure some tracks will be hits on the electroclash dance floors, I feel that the song writing is a bit amateurish and awkward at times. One example is the single song “San Francisco” which is actually starting to get some rotation already, but it’s far from my favourite song. I rather listen to the melancholy “Flashing Lights” or the beautiful and blippy “Dancing”, both more cohesive and better structured. All in all, this is a quite unique sounding debut though, and if you’re into electroclash, you should check it out.
