TERROR PUNK SYNDICATE
EXTENDED PLAYTIME

ALBUM PROGRESS RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 18, 2007

Swedish debutant Terror Punk Syndicate have made a really strong freshman effort. With a style more reminiscent of the old Wax Trax sound than the new and mostly craptastic “hellectro” sound, this is an album that is easy to like. Ranging from full on dance tracks like “Here to Take You Down” to slower and darker tracks like “Horizon (Version)”, there’s a pretty wide palette. John Karlgren tweaks his knobs with skill, and he actually brings in some funk. Not funk as in George Clinton, but as in groove and feeling. Something that’s sorely missing in most modern EBM.

My favourite track is “I Wish I Was Retarded (Edit)”, the track that first brought TPS to my attention on the latest Progress Productions sampler. Its blend of heavy beats, bouncing bass line and sweet strings is fantastic. Not all the compositions on “Extended Playtime” keep the same level of finesse, but if you want some heavy and melodic electronics without too much distortion and evilness, this is for you.
