SPETSNAZ
PERFECT BODY
EP SSC, PLAYGROUND, OUT OF LINE RELEASE: NOVEMBER 8, 2004 REVIEW: DECEMBER 1, 2004

Spetsnaz' new EP entitled ”Perfect Body” is aimed directly at the dancefloor – and will have some success there, I feel. Although the opening original take on the ”Perfect Body” track is a little too Hi-NRG for some people's tastes, the Earlobe remix is pleasingly manic in all the right ways. ”I’m One” (I’m Two remix) is also a direct call to arms for the clubbing masses, and will no doubt pull a few up from their seats with their arms flailing manically. I especially love the mad break down that just appears from nowhere to finish the track off – very unexpected and slightly disorientating! Another one to check out is the Werkoluks remix of ”On the Edge”, nice and hard in an old school pumping techno kind of way.
Over the course of the eight tracks, there is enough here to keep people's interest, whether in the clubs or the armchair. The vocals can get a bit excessive at times, in the old strained-shouty vocals kind of way, but the music is on the whole competent, with a nice array of electronic sounds, and nice changes of pace during tracks, which help hold your attention. It is also worth listening to the live version of ”On the Edge” for an interesting surprise!
This EP won’t change the world, but then again I don’t think that’s what Spetsnaz had in mind anyway!
