SOPHIE RIMHEDEN
INTO NIGHT
EP SSSCHUITT RELEASE: APRIL, 2004 REVIEW: MAY 14, 2004

Sophie Rimheden’s machines must live hyperactive organic lives of their own. They burp, giggle, fart, cough, and shudder with hiccups. Orbiting the sounds, Rimheden’s voice flutters like multicoloured butterflies with razorblades for wings and UV lights for eyes. Somewhere deep below, the earth trembles with eruptions of pink poisons while one thousand beautiful hermaphrodites sip expensive cocktails through straws encrusted with rhinestone.
As you’ve probably gathered from the above paragraph, I really have no clue as how to describe Sophie Rimheden’s music. Sure, it has reference points in everything from laptop electronica to Samantha Fox, but the result is so utterly alien that any comparison or attempt to describe it crumbles to dust in the clumsy hands of this writer. All you really need to know though, is that the three new songs on her new EP “Into Night” are just as great as last year’s debut album “Hi-fi”, and should be a sure investment if you have any interest in innovative electronic music whatsoever. Kaleidoscopic bursts of liquid joy sprinkling twoheaded squirrels jumping through rings of… hrmmm… I’ll just shut up now.
