REAL LIFE
IMPERFECTION
ALBUM A DIFFERENT DRUM RELEASE: MARCH, 2004 REVIEW: APRIL 30, 2004

Real Life is something as rare as a synthpop band from Australia. This fact alone is noteworthy, but as luck would have it, it's pretty good too. They had success in the eighties, and have continued making music over the years. This latest album “Imperfection” is a bit hit and miss, as some tracks, such as the opening title track, are fantastic synthpop at its finest, while other songs just don’t do it for me. The best songs are in the first half of the record, while the other half leaves a lot to be desired. The weak songs just don’t have the drive, catchieness or beautiful synth lines to make them interesting. And even though Real Life have been at it for 20 years, they sound a tad like amateurs at times, both soundwise and songwise.
However, all in all, if you’re into synthpop they are well worth checking out. This release also comes with a bonus disc with lots of nondescript dance mixes on it, some improve the original songs, some don't.
