OOMPH!
EGO
ALBUM VIRGIN RELEASE: JULY 9, 2001 REVIEW: AUGUST 14, 2001

Oomph! are back with their latest work, but I seriously doubt people care. Well, maybe except for a bunch of German Limp Bizkit or Rammstein fans. "Ego" sounds like neither Limp Bizkit, nor Rammstein, which is nice, but I think that it appeals to a similar audience. That comparison is a bit unfair since this is, not surprisingly, much better than the mentioned bands. They have brighter moments and that is when they sound a bit like the American grunge bands used to, like in "Transformation". Although, simple guitar riffs somewhat contaminate the soundscape here as well. Worth noticing is that when the vocalist really sings, he actually does it good so why the roar?
This band left EBM behind a long time ago. They weren't interesting back in the good old days, but this is definitely worse. With "Ego", Oomph! continue to wander the path of sell-out and prostitution...
