MODERAT
ALBUM BPITCH CONTROL RELEASE: MAY 8, 2009 REVIEW: AUGUST 2, 2009

When Modeselektor and Apparat join forces they of course call themselves Moderat. Together they make a nice, smooth electro with influences of hip hop. After a first 12” back in 2003, their self titled debut album is released on Ellen Allien's label Bpitch Control.

This is atmospheric electro with a really nice soundscape; fresh, interesting and with a constant drive in the beat that take me through the eleven tracks. “Rusty Nails” with Sascha Ring on vocals is the first single from the album, but my favourite track is without a doubt “Slow Match” with Paul St Hilaire. With a Yello-esque beat this sounds like a hit and while the rest of the stuff is good, nothing comes even close to this track.

Over all a nice release that could use a bit more edge, because when something here leaves a mark, it leaves quite a deep mark. More of that please.
