MOMMY HURT MY HEAD
MOMMY HURT MY HEAD
ALBUM PROGRESS RELEASE: NOVEMBER 25, 2009 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 26, 2009

Mommy Hurt My Head is a Danish band from Aarhus, making some seriously heavy EBM in the vein of Leæther Strip's "Solitary Confinement" era. Some hints of early Front Line Assembly and Skinny Puppy might also be gleaned from listening to their self titled debut album. It's nice to see that this sound of yesteryear, from the nineties, is still going strong, but taken to the next level. This is neither hellectro nor futurepop, this is just heavy electronic industrial dance music, done with talent and care.

Chugging basslines, throbbing noises, frantic percussion, distorted voices, samples and effective melodies are the ingredients of this intriguing cocktail. There are no slow tracks or ballads here, only full on action tracks, so it all does get a bit samey after a while, but there is variation to be had. "Treason" is my favourite, with its bouncing beat and relentless feeling, but then we have "This Is a Missile" which sounds like Skinny Puppy, very much so because of the Nivek-esque vocals. Further on still, there's "Grey Demise" an eerie but upbeat song with a killer chorus.

If you are at all interested in the hard electronic sound of the nineties, you have to check this out. It's for your own good.
