LACUNA COIL
IN A REVERIE
ALBUM CENTURY MEDIA RELEASE: MARCH 1, 1999 REVIEW: JUNE 1, 1999

In a Reverie is this Italian band's second album. They have already become a smaller name within the scene, but I can't see why. The music is typical gothic metal with a female vocalist, doing quite well. Unfortunately there's a guy singing and he doesn't impress me the slightest! It's too bad, because this could've been quite good without his typical metal style vocals. But I guess it's a matter of taste. Another bad thing is the lack of originality. It can't be easy for these goth metal bands nowadays, since the number of goth metal releases seems to be constantly increasing. Traditional goth bands like Still Patient? and Love Like Blood follow the trend, using more heavy guitars on their latest releases.
The songs on the album are alright, with the opening track "Circle ahead of the Others". This song is good, partly because you don't hear much of the male vocals. A potential hit!
Finally I would like to say that this album probably suits heavy metal kids very well, but I'm getting really tired of this kind of music and I feel bored while listening to it.
