HALO_GEN
ALBUM PENDRAGON RELEASE: SPRING, 2000 REVIEW: MAY 5, 2000

The 1997 Numb album "Blood Meridian" was an earthquake like collision between industrial brutality and Autechre derived rhythms. Claustrophobic and heavy, noisy and strangely catchy, all at the same time. Therefor I felt that I had a reason to have some expectations on this the latest album by Numb mastermind Don Gordon's solo project Halo_gen. But when deprived of the song structures and raw power of Numb, Gordon's techno influences sound rather hollow, and Halo_gen feel like little more than a faint echo of the "intelligent techno" wave of the early 90's. Some moments of dark beauty and squeaking rhythms help up, but not enough.
