FUNKER VOGT
AVIATOR
ALBUM SYNTHETIC SYMPHONY, PLAYGROUND RELEASE: APRIL 27, 2007 REVIEW: MAY 4, 2007

Trying to find new ways of expressing the Funker Vogt formula has been quite an uphill battle. Their war laden recipe for success does not seem to be halted anytime soon. "Aviator" follows where "Navigator" ended, deeply entangled in lyrical nonsense and engaging club staples.

The uncompromising nature of Funker Vogt has preserved them a relatively large fan base as well as severely annoying their critics. I really despised their music at their feeble birth. Noise and anger without anchorage and hopelessly clichéd lyrics. Well, we have to live with those lyrics, I'm afraid, but the music has transformed into melodic club monsters through the years. "Aviator" incorporates more trance than before, but their trademark sound is stubbornly hanging on.

If possible, disconnecting the brain would be preferable while listening to the stale machine mania of Funker Vogt, as they march on in a steady, but too predictable manner. A new album by side project Ravenous will hopefully come next.
