FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM
REVELATIONS / FOREVER REMAIN / VISIONARY HEADS
DVD BEGGARS BANQUET, PLAYGROUND RELEASE: DECEMBER 16, 2002 REVIEW: JANUARY 25, 2003

When I was 16, I had copies of "Visionary Heads " and "Forever Remain " which I used to view alone at night with my headphones on. Nothing, I told myself, nothing can be better than this. This was my therapy, my reward after a long day in school. The video-tapes got lost somewhere in my early twenties and I mourned.
Now, the time to cry is over. The two live concerts are available again, this time on DVD, with a third video-tape as an unexpected bonus: "Revelations ", containing all promotional videos. And what about bonus material? you ask. Well, not much in that area, just an electronic press kit, a video by The Nefilim and two by Rubicon. No behind the stage footage, no private shots from the tour, nothing. And frankly, that sucks. It makes this DVD feel like another attempt to earn some coin off the great fanbase of Fields... But still, this is one of the best groups in the world ever, and I suspect my anger with the record company will subside tonight when I put my headphones on and watch Fields of the Nephilim live in the dark, with perfect crystal clear sound. As it is supposed to be. Hell, I may even cast a glance at a video or two and feel a bit of goth nostalgia. And that can’t be a bad thing. Plus, it’s nice to have this much great music collected on one disc. Especially since the "Forever Remain" concert from '88 is a killer.
