FEAR FACTORY
DIGIMORTAL
ALBUM ROADRUNNER ARCADE RELEASE: APRIL 23, 2001 REVIEW: MAY 29, 2001

"These guys kick ass!" Sounding like the forever super pubertal MTV brain molesters Beavis and Butthead, there is no better way to describe Fear Factory's new album. "Digimortal" may not be as rigid and straightforward as their last full-length album, "Obsolete", but still we are very far from disco. Sometimes I am somewhat of a melody man.
Trash/death veterans Fear Factory have obviously no intent of stepping off the road leading to the neighbourhoods of Pantera, Machine Head, Prong and early Sepultura. And it suits me just fine. Front Line Assembly's Rhys Fulber had the responsibility of producing the album, but I cannot truly say it shines through as much as I had expected. The electronic parts of Fear Factory have always been present, more or less.
"Digimortal" is a dark and powerful album with few weak spots. The lyrics are reserved and self destructive in many ways. And the music… it's rock in the heavier division. If you have heard them before, you know what to expect. And if you haven't, well, you're in for a treat.
