THE ECHOING GREEN
MUSIC FROM THE OCEAN PICTURE
ALBUM A DIFFERENT DRUM RELEASE: JUNE, 2001 REVIEW: JULY 10, 2001

The Echoing Green have proven very smart songwriters over the years. They have what it takes to reach the top within synthpop, which sadly doesn't say much. There are way too many talented pop bands (using mainly electronic instruments) that don't get enough recognition. I'm positive that if, say, The Echoing Green's "Beautiful" was released by U2 or some blockbuster rock/pop band it would have become a huge hit. It's a lively pop song with massive synth "riffs" and a superb chorus. The same can be said for a number of tracks on "Music from the Ocean Picture", an album without surfacing weaknesses. Convincing, also, are the vocals and sense of complex sound structures, which "Epiphany" is a great display of.
A great album. A great band. A poor market.
