EFFECTOR
ALBUM NETTWERK, MNW RELEASE: OCTOBER 24, 2000, FEBRUARY, 2001 (SCANDINAVIA) REVIEW: JANUARY 16, 2001

This is how I picture a modern dance hall version of Skinny Puppy. The association is inevitable. Breakbeats and dark dub-like grooves get together with a smooth sound, sample collage and soft melancholic melodies that makes me think of a modern "Mind T.P.I.".
"Effector" is the new full-length album from Download and undoubtedly the best so far. Download's current line-up is Cevin Key and Phil Western of Off and Gone and Flatpoint. Phil Western also played keyboards on Skinny Puppy's latest release "Process". The result of the collaboration between Key and Western is stunning!
The nine non-vocal tracks grow in strength and quality every time I listen to them. "Effector" takes you back to something made by Aphex Twin or maybe some of the strangest songs from The Chemical Brothers or Underworld. It's danceable but at the same time music made to listen to. There is much to discover in the background of the songs. The music really gets a tight grip of your soul and keeps your attention focused from the beginning until the end. "Effector" is a short album but you get good value for your money. The future is dark, danceable and promising…
