DIVE
LIES IN YOUR EYES
ALBUM DAFT RELEASE: SEPTEMBER, 2002 REVIEW: OCTOBER 8, 2002

Rejoice all ye lovers of Dive, Dirk Ivens is back with another incisive sliver of spite. This disc is an EP which may or may not preceed an album. Dirk works with long time co-conspirator Eric V of Insekt and Monolith fame on this one.
This time around, Dirk has opted to go back to the sound of his earlier releases and it shows. Only this time around, he's attempting to re-create the disemboweled, manic schizophrenia that he achieved years ago with Marc Verhaeghen in the Klinik. This does not work as Ivens is not the musician that Verhaeghen is - but it doesn't suck either. The psychosis inherent in this mini album is an acquired taste which fortunately I have. I've enjoyed Dive's work for some time now but it lacks the impact of Klinik and yet is light years ahead of the horrid albums he's done under the Sonar banner.
In summation, this is no step forward but it is an enjoyably dark and demented five song EP. Perhaps someday, he'll stop looping the same loop over and over for four minutes with him rasping over it. And drop the "power noise" intro track next time, eh?
