DAWN OF OBLIVION
MEPHISTO'S APPEALING
ALBUM M&A MUSIC ART RELEASE: MAY 28, 2001 REVIEW: AUGUST 17, 2001

Sweden's dark wavers Dawn of Oblivion is back with a new album called "Mephisto's Appealing". It makes me happy, even though I don't think happiness is the emotion the band would like to deliver. The music is exceedingly theatrical, the lyrics dark and spectacular. It's very much just the way darkwave should be. A little hard to listen to if you are not in the melodramatic mood, especially at times when they step over the border to Iron Maiden and Halloween land.
Some very strong songs, like i e "The Hellfire Sermon" and "Under Siege", are being mixed with a few predictable parts. This is an album I would like to recommend to all those, curious about the darkwave scene. Dawn of Oblivion are going on an European tour later this year, so if you would like to see vocalist Victor Fradera's good looking hat, be sure not to miss them.
