DARKSEED
ASTRAL ADVENTURES
ALBUM MASSACRE RELEASE: JUNE 30, 2003 REVIEW: OCTOBER 22, 2003

It’s odd - and a little scary - that a band that has been around for twelve years isn’t able to get better production on a record than this. It’s a bit sad too, because with a fleshier, not so dry sound, "Astral Adventures" actually would have been a really good goth metal album. The ideas and the (somewhat familiar) mix of harsh male and ethereal female vocals are there. So are a few good guitar riffs and arrangements. "Dying Land", "Where Will I go" and "Rain of Revival" are a few songs that actually could have been great. Now they feel half-finished and are merely passable - and Darkseed is just a pale copy of The Gathering and Type O Negative, eating the dust of Tiamat. Odd, scary and sad - but true.
