COVENANT FEAT. NECRO FACILITY
LIGHTBRINGER EP
EP PROGRESS PRODUCTIONS RELEASE: OCTOBER 22, 2010 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 10, 2010

After numerous delays of new Covenant material, we suddenly see the recently re-organized group - with Daniel Myer stepping in for Clas Nachmanson - teaming up with heavy industrial band Necro Facility to whip up one the catchiest tracks they have ever released. Weird, if it wasn’t for Necro Facility’s Oscar Holter; pop master by day, industrial overlord by night.

Featured in the song is an intriguing mix of Eskil Simonsson and Henrik Bäckström’s vocals, two very different styles that works here. Underneath is an electronic pop song almost suitable for radio. Great stuff.

Also included on the EP is a bunch of remixes from Joakim Montelius and Daniel Myer - and a radio version. The other versions aren’t very interesting unfortunately. I know what Myer can do remixwise, and this effort is not among his best stuff. The “speedrun” mix is a bundle of fun though!

Two new tracks can also be found, in the form of a remix of the quirky, groovy and wonderful “The Beauty and the Grace” and the unfortunately pretty boring “Never Seem to End”.

We're still waiting for the new album "Modern Ruin", but now I await it with more anticipation than before just because this is a strong sign of life, and Covenant prove they aren't afraid of trying new things.
