COLONY 5
FIXED
ALBUM MEMENTO MATERIA, EPOPLAND, STORMING, AMG RELEASE: APRIL 18, 2005 REVIEW: MAY 16, 2005

Some people will probably love Swedish technopop duo Colony 5’s new album "Fixed", but I'm afraid I'm missing something here. Sure, this is slickly produced with some nice melodies and dance beats. But it’s all a bit boring. It’s hard to distinguish the different songs, and the vocals sound exactly the same on every track. The singer's voice gets a bit grating after a while, stuck firmly within the Swedish synthpop “operatic” style, complete with Swedish accent.
“Fusion” and “Big Brothel” are standout tracks in an otherwise bland soup, but they can’t lift the entire album, can they? It’s filled with dance floor fodder and it's just too much for me. Colony 5 are indeed "fixed" in their sound.
