ENCOUNTERS BELIEVE ALBUM BLOODLINE, SSC, PLAYGROUND RELEASE: APRIL, 2001 REVIEW: MAY 3, 2001  Close Encounters is a new Bloodline duo from Germany consisting of Stella Tonan, vocals, and Thomas Elbern, who makes all the music. The sound is the now common mixture of female vocals over soft electronic backdrops and acoustic instruments, although the tempo is mostly upbeat. Most songs are melancholic pop songs, and I think it is fair to assume that they are aiming for the charts. They will probably succeed as most songs are really catchy and you find yourself humming along now and then. One problem is that the songs often blend together, and it is difficult to keep them apart. Furthermore, Stella's singing is not that varied, which makes the problem even worse. This said, the record is very well put together and it has got a number of tracks that are destined for high chart positions. JOHAN CARLSSON |
