CHICKS ON SPEED AND THE NOHEADS PRESS THE SPACEBAR ALBUM CHICKS ON SPEED RELEASE: DECEMBER 1, 2004 REVIEW: DECEMBER 21, 2004

Hooking up with Spanish outfit the Noheads, Chicks on Speed have taken a much needed step in a new direction after the blandness of their last album “99 Cents”. Expanding the sound by incorporating more live instruments alongside the odd vacuum cleaner blesses “Press the Spacebar” with a much more exciting sound, and there are few things lacking when it comes to seeking out new musical territories.
Ultimately though, the songwriting wrecks large parts of the album by being just as unengaging as it was on “99 Cents”. And all the noisemaking in the world - or even producer Cristian Vogel’s touches of sonic wizardry - can’t repair that.
