CENTURY
MELANCHOLIA
ALBUM E-WAVE, BMG RELEASE: FEBRUARY 12, 2001 REVIEW: MARCH 27, 2001

Century is one of those bands it always has a tendency to rain on. The clouds are until the end of time dark, whenever the members decide to leave their apartments and slowly walk the streets in black leather coats with their heads down.
Depression is the key word. The music is played in different shades of grey as if colour is not invented.
Century shows too much influences from Depeche Mode and Paradise Lost, which they by the way probably never would admit. They are also too pretentious and way down in the dumps. They are not aware that their own creativity is efficiently being choked by their scariness of producing something original, that may fail to deliver the memorandum they are in search of. Century is not taking any risks what so ever on “Melancholia”.
A few good songs, sure, but in the long run: Oh so boring. “Melancholia” may appeal to people madly in love with German goth rock, but it really means nothing to me.
