CELLULOIDE
WORDS ONCE SAID
ALBUM BOREDOM PRODUCT RELEASE: JANUARY 1, 2004 REVIEW: JANUARY 28, 2004

Celluloide is something quite rare. First of all a French band in Release and secondly a French band that embraces retro sounding analogue synthesizers and make soft pop music with them. Swedish readers might know about Sista mannen på jorden, and this band sounds very similar to them. Indeed, SMPJ – as they sometimes are called – have remixed a track on this album. Too bad then, that the French contenders doesn’t have the same sense for melody and song writing.
Lyrics are in English most of the time, sometimes in French, sung by a so far nameless woman (the press material is sparse). The vocal style is in the deadpan electroclash area, and you might say that some of the music is too, only more blippy and retro.
Anyway, if you want an album that sounds distinctly like it was made in 1982, here is your chance. It makes for a pleasant passing of the time, but doesn’t leave any imprints in my memory.
