BOLA
GNAYSE
ALBUM SKAM RELEASE: NOVEMBER 29, 2004 REVIEW: JANUARY 17, 2005

Bola is one of the bigger names in the introvert ambient electronica genre. Throughout a series of albums the one man project by Darrell Fitton has refined their style of melancholic glitch ambience. Together with Gridlock, he lives in the small space where beautiful strings and piano melodies go hand in hand with crisp, brittle, glitchy rhythms and knob twiddling. This time around, Darrell has upped the melancholia, and it truly is a sombre, warm album. Perfect listening for a cold winter’s night.
The earlier albums are more varied and accessible I think, and I hold them in slightly higher regard because the songs on this album don't stand out the same way, but “Gnayse” is still a great piece of work. Check out the last album "Fyuti" as well; it's brilliant.
