BLACK LUNG
PROFOUND AND SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY
EP ANT-ZEN RELEASE: SUMMER, 2001 REVIEW: JULY 17, 2001

Black Lung is Australian David Thrussel, also founder of Snog, a socio-critical angry industrial band. Personally I prefer his solo work as Black Lung since 1995 as it is more subtle and interesting. A major player in the dark ambient genre, Thrussel creates deeply unsettling soundscapes without overdoing it with noise or watering it down with meaningless drone sequences.
This EP is Black Lung’s first record with a seemingly apolitical title, and the sound is a bit softer than usual. Perhaps this really is a profound and sentimental journey into the mind of David Thrussel. If so, it is still a disturbed mind, judging from titles like “Another moth-eaten happiness“. When it comes to Black Lung, I quite enjoy the political side, and wait in anticipation for Thrussel’s next attack on western political policy and the global economy.
