THE APRIL TEARS
HARDCOMING
SINGLE EDEL RELEASE: OCTOBER 22, 2001 REVIEW: NOVEMBER 23, 2001

The April Tears keep producing brilliant songs, but none of them seem to end up on a full album. The third single off their upcoming album "Consume Desire" (January is the latest bid) is the intensely electronic rock song "Hardcoming". Like "Model, Actress, Whatever" and "Seventeen" it's an understandable single choice. Singer Sara's attitude in this particular track mirrors the sounds that created it. Warm synths and cold guitars, with the latter taking centre stage in the chorus.
"Crashed Venus", one of two extra tracks, is a beautiful slow paced tune with a defined The Cure-ish guitar melody and genuine heart felt emotion. Originally, on the unreleased "Eyes Cold Kisses" album, the second bonus on this single, "Love Parasites", has been mixed and remade into something reasonably similar to "Hardcoming", regarding tempo and sound. A video clip of "Seventeen" is included too, as a bonus bonus.
Three singles from "Consume Desire" so far, all of which are great. Now it's time for more than ten consecutive April Tears minutes.
