ALICE IN VIDEOLAND
OUTRAGEOUS
ALBUM NATIONAL (SWEDEN), STORMING (USA) RELEASE: OCTOBER 5, 2005 (SWEDEN), OCTOBER 18 (USA) REVIEW: OCTOBER 14, 2005

Here in Sweden, Alice in Videoland have been praised for their blend of EBM, pop and punk. Deservedly so, according to me, as they brought something new to the scene. Being fronted by the cool and good-looking Toril has probably helped, in this testosterone-heavy sub culture. Their live shows have also been abundant, almost to the point of people saying “no, not them again!”, but Toril and the boys always put on a great show. A couple of member changes later, the band is back again, with the second album “Outrageous”.

My first impression is “more of the same”, which is an impression that stays. However, the songs are better, more smoothly produced and have nicer flow this time. Two favourites have crystallised themselves; namely “Ladykiller” and “Radiosong”, both damn brilliant pop songs with heavy synthesizers working their magic. Label National says "Radiosong" might be a future single after "Bad Boy" and "Cut the Crap".

There’s a healthy dose of party tracks on here, but when they try to bring down the tempo things get a bit messy. It’s just too bad that Toril really doesn’t have a great voice, and sounds pretty much the same on every song. She makes up for it in attitude and personality though. In fact, the entire album is filled to the brim with those two traits.

With "Outrageous", Alice in Videoland want things to start happening in USA. I honestly hope it turns out well for them. They've got the looks, and with "Radiosong", they've got the hit as well.
