ALICE IN VIDEOLAND
A MILLION THOUGHTS AND THEY'RE ALL ABOUT YOU
ALBUM ARTOFFACT RELEASE: JANUARY 11, 2011 REVIEW: JANUARY 21, 2011

Alice in Videoland are very good at sounding like Alice In Videoland. This is great because it means they have a distinguishable sound, and a voice of their own. The problem is that this Swedish band have sounded more or less the same for four albums now, and the electro punk novelty is wearing off a little. At least for me. To be fair, they are probing new grounds with for example “Bender”, a number inspired by house music that I guess is supposed to be sexy, but fails by trying too hard with lines like “grab my butt” and “grab my tits”.

On a positive note however, one of the band's best songs ever is featured on this album, namely “Something New”. It’s a power house of a track, sporting a furious beat, throbbing bass and a supremely catchy chorus. Fabulous. It’s also followed by the energetic “In a Band” and the emotional “No Matter” creating a sweet trio of greatness in the middle of the album. It’s also worth mentioning that the band has made a cover of Neneh Cherry’s old hit “Buffalo Stance”, but it doesn’t really catch my interest.

If you’re a fan of Alice in Videoland you will undoubtedly love this album, and they do break out of their mould at times to try new stuff. They do their thing, and they do it very well.
