ELVA
ALBUM KILLING MUSIC RELEASE: JUNE 8, 2011 REVIEW: JUNE 9, 2011

I remember longing for more vocals when I last listened to the 047 debut "Robopop". Their frantic bitpop works best in moderate portions, as their whirling melodies almost make your head spin after a few songs.

So, hearing the first single off "Elva" (eleven in Swedish) made me ecstatic. Ultra cool electropop, still fuelled by clever melodies, and strong vocals by Thomas Halberstad. I could easily see "Let You Go" work on the radio as well as in the clubs.

The album offers two more vocal tracks, both of which are simply fantastic. Fresh sounding and contemporary, yet still hyper electronic. Seven more tracks, all instrumental, make up the rest of the album. 047 serve up very pleasant variations on the bitpop theme this time, ranging from the magnificent arcade game-oozing "General Error" to the more techno-ish gem called "Trekker".

Vastly superior to its predecessor, I hope "Elva" will make 047 take the vital step towards more vocal work.
