James Cook works with IAMX

Nov 23, 2011 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

James Cook is a British singer who is the front man of electro rock outfit Nemo, and he was also in some early incarnations of the IAMX live band. Furthermore, he has also appeared in the excellent British comedy series The Mighty Boosh (with Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding, Cook's former roommates), where Chris Corner also was featured as the "übermod" in an early episode.

James Cook will now release a new album under his own name, the first single being "End of Summer", where you can hear Chris Corner on backing vocals (and additional production). Have a listen on YouTube.

The Pet Shop Boys have released some of their best songs as B-sides, and they have also released a compilation of them on "Alternative", spanning songs from the beginning of their career up to 1995.

Now they have announced that they will release a second collection, continuing from there. It will be called "Format", featuring songs from 1996 to 2009 and will be out in 2012, both digitally and as a double disc CD. All tracks have been remastered, and the CD booklet features an interview with Neil and Chris by Jon Savage. The artwork is made by Farrow.

They have also started working on a new album, also set for release in 2012, but nothing much is known about it yet.

In further news, the boys recently received the "Beyond Theatre" award for their ballet "The Most Incredible Thing", at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in London. This new award is for people who swap genres and break boundaries.

Clarke & Gore to release EP in 9 days

Nov 21, 2011 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

Rumours about a collaboration between Depeche Mode legends Martin Gore and Vince Clarke started about a year ago when Vince tweeted about it. Martin Gore:

- Out of the blue I got an e-mail from Vince just saying, "I'm interested in making a techno album. Are you interested in collaborating?" He said, "No pressure, no deadlines", so I said, "OK".

The two of them started to work together albeit in their own separate studios communicating via the internet, and only met up after a long while at the Mute Short Circuit festival. Fans then started to speculate when and how and even if it would ever be released, and today we have the answer.

The project will be called VCMG, and we'll first see a string of EP:s, followed by a whole album.

The first EP is called "Spock", globally released exclusively on Beatport on November 30, and then on other digital services on December 12, with a 12" vinyl following on December 19. Included are a bunch of remixes by techno acts such as Edit Select, XOQ, Regis and DVS1. Here you can listen to some snippets which have received positive feedback from most listeners.

The yet untitled album is produced by Clarke and Gore and mixed by the Californian electronic artist Überzone / Q and will be released next spring.
