The event of the year for our scene (?), the Short Circuit Mute festival in London is on, with performances from Erasure, Recoil, Nitzer Ebb, The Residents, Komputer, Laibach and many more. Will Depeche Mode play? With present and old members? Will Alan Wilder rejoin Depeche Mode? Who will guest who's live show? Anything can happen when the Mute family gathers for a weekend of concerts, DJ:ing (DJ Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher, Moby, Daniel Miller etc), seminars, films, workshops (Flood) - and fun.

Fredrik "Schlatta" Svensson is reporting, taking photos and conducting interviews for Release. He sat down with Alan Wilder today (who did not reveal anything). Later in the evening, Recoil was joined by Nitzer Ebb on stage and they performed "Personal Jesus", "Family Man" and "Faith Healer".

A buzz has taken off around the act thanks to their previous hyper-electronic single "Bocce Ball" making it to the finals of two prestigious songwriting competitions – the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, and the International Songwriting Competition.

Norwegian vocalist Hanne Merete features on both "Bocce Ball" and the EP track "Brent".

SGA: no refunds now

May 5, 2011 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Several readers have asked us to gather more information about the cancelled SGA Festival (June 17-18, Stockholm). We talked to Tommy Brandt, head of SGA.

Will the ticket buyers get their money back?

- We can't offer any ticket refunds right now, but of course we will do so within reasonable time. We can't give an exact date. First and foremost we offer 2012 tickets in exchange. We have paid large sums to most of the booked festival acts with the ticket money.

But the artists will not play.

- The contracts states 50% must be paid in advance. If we cancel, the bands don't pay us back.

Have all the live bands from the SGA club nights been paid now?

- All but two (Mr Jones Machine and Trakktor). We're missing receipts from these bands and there are other factors as well. We're looking into this.

SGA festival confirms cancellation

May 1, 2011 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

The head of the SGA, Tommy Brandt, has now confirmed the cancellation of the festival.

SGA (Stockholm Goes Alternative) was supposed to make its debut on June 17-18, in Vallentuna outside Stockholm, with bands like Funker Vogt, De/Vision, Clan of Xymox, Assemblage 23 and Gravitonas.

Tommy Brandt lists a number of reasons for the hard decision to cancel SGA, the top three being:

1) The negative publicity after booking Elegant Machinery.

2) The persons in the "inner circle" of SGA lost confidence in the event and quit.

3) Poor ticket sales and low interest.

SGA intends to return in 2012.
