Time-out for Rome

May 26, 2010 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Luxemburg/German duo Rome has cancelled all activities (live, promotion etc) for 2010.

- I need to let the fields lie fallow for a while in order to keep this art truthful, Rome mastermind Jerome Reuter says and adds that this is not the end of Rome.

- We have no problem accepting this, given the fact that Jerome has released five albums and various smaller releases within the last five years, Rome label Trisol says.

The new album "Nos Chans Perdus" was released on May 14.

Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood are attached to star in the retro "sexploitation-serial-killer-slasher-road-movie" "Splatter Sisters".

- This is a role Marilyn Manson was born to play, and with Evan Rachel Wood bringing dramatic gravity to the ensemble, I have no doubt this will take the horror genre to a new level, filmmaker David Gordon Green said at the Cannes presentation.

The Arvika Festival has not only booked fewer names from the "synth" genre this year, the new generation of Arvika bookers have even issued a long statement were they say thank you and goodbye to this music. In a fresh press release, they claim they "can't find inspiration in the genre" and that they are more into other electronic music genres these days. This happens the year after they booked Depeche Mode.

As most readers know, in many other countries there are numerous successful, big festivals for this music. For instance, Wave Gotik Treffen attracts 20 000 people in Leipzig right now.

However, the Arvika Festival don't want to disappoint ticket buyers heading for this year's festival, so they have re-booked three of their "house bands": VNV Nation, Combichrist and S.P.O.C.K. S.P.O.C.K will play their tenth (!) gig at Arvika in July.

Among the previously booked bands we find Alice in Videoland, Familjen, IAMX, Leæther Strip, Nitzer Ebb and Universal Poplab.
