Autodafeh pay tribute to early EBM

August 26, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Not long after releasing their debut album "Hunt for Glory" (which made it to number one in the German DAC), talented Swedish trio Autodafeh pay tribute to the days of old with their brand new seven track EP "Re:lectro" (Sigsaly, August 21). They actually come quite close to the minimalistic and cold sound of, say, early Front 242. They even supported Front 242 earlier this year. Perhaps they will find more of an identity of their own on their second album, scheduled for October.

Håkan Lidbo wins Depeche Mode remix contest

August 25, 2009 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

1 000 producers entered the Depeche Mode "Peace" remix contest and 51 000 votes were cast. Depeche Mode listened to 20 remixes; one half chosen by the public and the other half by a jury. In the end, the tech house remix from Håkan Lidbo was picked. Swedish electronic musician Håkan Lidbo has released 200 records (we'll take his word for it).

"Peace" is the current Depeche Mode single; the next one will be "Fragile Tension" in September or October, according to depechemode.de; a song that leaked prior to the album release and was critizised by many people.

Fresh from the release of IAMX's latest album "Kingdom of Welcome Addiction" comes a new single plucked from said full length. It has actually been out for a couple of weeks, but I'm going to tell you about it anyway. The track in question is "Tear Garden", and is available on CD single. The disc contains a bunch of different versions of "Tear Garden", and comes randomly in blue or red.

Mesh gearing up towards new album

August 18, 2009 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

British synthpop band Mesh are just about finished with their new album "A Perfect Solution" for a release in October. The single "Only Better" will be out beforehand, on September 4, to give you a hint of the sound.

Release has got a promo of said single from Mesh' new label Dependent, and can report that there is a grittier "gritty" (!) version with more guitars, and a quite good electronic club remix, as well as some external remixes and a B-side.

This is the band's first release since member Neil Taylor left the band to focus on other things. The two remaining band members Mark Hockings and Richard Silverthorn say it's a dark and somewhat harder album than their previous efforts.

Check out the lads and a sneak preview here.
