Throbbing Gristle live dates

Feb 26 2007 | By: Mattias Huss (Uppsala, Sweden)

Throbbing Gristle have published their live dates for this year, "the only year the individual members of TG are committed to a public existence", according to the official web site. They will perform at the Donau Festival in Austria on April 29-30, at Tate Modern in London on May 27 and at the Institute of Contemporary Art, also in London, on June 1-3.

These appearances are of a thematic nature rather than ordinary gigs, being tributes to the late filmmaker Derek Jarman, public recording sessions for a seated audience and the like. In addition to these dates, a number of live possibilities around Europe during June and October are listed awaiting confirmation. No American shows will be played.

One reason for the limited number of gigs cited is the long term, serious and restrictive health problems of Cosey Fanni Tutti and Genesis Dreyer P-Orridge.

Advanced Swedish electropop band Backlash has been diligently working on the follow-up to “Heliotrope”, an album that earned them a score of 8/10 in Release.

The new album is called “Shape of Things to Come”, and is out on March 13 in USA (WTII Records) and March 14 in Scandinavia (Memento Materia). Influences mentioned this time around are The Human League, Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp. We have the complete CD and can agree and say it is well-made, strong and varied. New live DVD and tour from Pet Shop Boys

Feb 22 2007 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

When the Pet Shop Boys played in Mexico in November, the show was recorded for a new DVD release (probably out in June). David Barnard has directed the film, and he has previously made live concert movies with Björk and Gorillaz. PSB's unsung hero, their longtime engineer Bob Kraushaar, has mixed the audio in both stereo and 5.1 surround.

Neil and Chris will also go on another European tour this summer. It starts in Norway on April 27, and ends in Holland on May 22, including gigs in the Baltic States, Germany, Switzerland and France. Sadly no concerts in Sweden, but some British dates will follow.

Time for new Perspectives

Feb 20 2007 | By: Mattias Huss (Uppsala, Sweden)

Ami Yoshida.

The Perspectives festival in Swedish Västerås in 2004 is already legendary for its incredibly ambitious line up of adventurous and noisy musicians including the one and only Merzbow as well as composer and jazz musician Anthony Braxton. The same mix of noise, modern jazz and electronica is promised for this year's festival on March 9-10.

The big pull this year is a Japanese dream duo: Ami Yoshida is known for creating quite unworldly sounds using only her voice recorded and treated in different manners. She was one of the Prix Electronica winners for her achievements in 2003. She will be performing together with EYE of Boredoms notoriety, the high priest of strange Japanese music from noise to tribal electronica.

Other notable performers include Skull Defects (with Henrik Rylander and Lasse Marhaug) and saxophone legend Evan Parker.
