Depeche Mode: new single and new summer dates

December 14 2005 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Dave Gahan's "Suffer Well" will be the next Depeche Mode single. The band has just finished shooting a California video with Anton Corbijn back in the director's chair.

Today, Norway's Quart Festival announced Depeche Mode will headline next year's event (July 6). The Coachella fest in USA (April 29), Dublin (June 26) and Athens, Greece (August 1) are also new dates. These are part of Depeche Mode's new open air plans, which are being put together as we speak. The open air tour will take place after the current arena tour.

The rest of the open air dates: In June, Depeche Mode will headline the Rock am Ring festivals and play in Hannover, Warsaw, Bratislava, Budapest, Interlaken, Sofia and Bucharest. In July they do Locarno, Berlin (two dates at Waldbühne), Leipzig, Nyon and Istanbul - and in August Tel Aviv.

"Fundamental" new Pet Shop Boys album on April 17

December 6 2005 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

We finally have the title of Pet Shop Boys' new album, due out on April 17, 2006. It's called "Fundamental", and will be preceded by a new single called "Minimal". "Fundamental" is produced by Trevor Horn and features an intro, ten Tennant/Lowe tracks and a song by Diane Warren.

Apparently the boys are very happy with the result, and have stated in their fan magazine "Literally" that "if you like 'It's a Sin', you'll like this album".

Suicide Commando comes back for the kill

December 6 2005 | By: Aimée Kreuger (Stockholm, Sweden)

For those who didn’t guess it when the single “Godsend/Menschenfresser” came in November, Belgian EBM project Suicide Commando will be releasing the next full length album soon. "Bind, Torture, Kill" is scheduled for March.

This will be their sixth album, and their fifth - the much appreciated “Axis of Evil“ - came about two years ago. “Axis of Evil” was voted best album of 2003 by DAC, the German Alternative Charts, and was rated an eight by Release Magazine’s Peter Marks. Let’s all hope that "Bind, Torture, Kill" will be worthy of the same honours.

Suicide Commando, Insekt, This Morn' Omina and Painbastard will go on a joined tour in April.

A new Client...

December 2 2005 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Clients E, B and A.

British synthpop act Client has recruited a Client E - Emily Strange (Mann) - on bass and is now a trio.

Miss E was not present when I caught Client live at Romo Night in Gothenburg last Friday (a charming performance including the Bowie cover "Let's Dance", by the way), but she will make her stage debut on Sunday in London. According to an article by Alan McGee in NME, she has been on the TV show "Make Me a Supermodel". McGee (Creation Records, Oasis) writes about his women (!), including Client A.

Client shows two new demos on this MySpace page.

...and a new Ministry

December 2 2005 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Al Jourgensen has recruited these nice fellas: Raven from Killing Joke and Tommy Victor from Prong, for Ministry's new "Rio Grande Blood" album (April, 13th Planet Records Inc).

Over at Competition, you can try to grab the latest Ministry release, the "Rantology" compilation.

All is busy in the Underworld

December 2 2005 | By: Mike Whyte (Tokyo, Japan)

The first week of December sees the release of "Pizza for Eggs", the second download-only release by the Underworld in less than a month.

"The Riverrun Project", as it is known, kicked off in November with "Lovely Broken Thing", the first new material from Underworld in two years, marking the start of an intense period of activity for the duo (remember that between the two releases the pair have toured around Europe and headlined the Electraglide festival in Tokyo and Osaka - as reported earlier in Release).

The project is set to allow Karl and Rick to show a different side to the Underworld sound, through throwing away the restraints of the single and album release formats. The series is being released as downloadable packages (described as "listening experiences") directly from the website. This greater artistic freedom can be seen in the upcoming release - a 25-minute ambient epic, highlighting the deeper, more experimental side to the Underworld sound. This new downloadable format is not due to replace, but enhance the Underworld creative vision, so expect more in the way of commercial releases, live shows and everything that has kept them at the top of their game, in the future.

"Pretty Broken Things", including the much-praised track "JAL to Tokyo", is available now. "Pizza for Eggs", including full artwork and access to 444 pictures taken by the artists themselves, is available on December 7 via www.underworldlive.com.

Elegant Machinery head for Peru and Chile

December 1 2005 | By: Mikael Kahrle (Gothenburg, Sweden)

Richard Jomshof from Swedish synthpop trio Elegant Machinery gave as a status report today.

- We're heading for South America next week, for two maybe three gigs. We are going to perform in Peru and Chile; possibly also in Colombia, he thinks.

They are working hard on their comeback album.

- We have made nine new songs and we will work on these when we get back from South America. We have planned to make an additional nine or more songs before we start to chose which will be on the album. We have several song ideas, so it shouldn't take long, Richard Jomshof says.
