Four hour DVD with The Mission

June 30 2005 | By: Aimée Kreuger (Stockholm, Sweden)

The Mission joins the music DVD trend by releasing "Lighting the Candles" in late August.

With nearly 20 productive years behind them, The Mission have had much to choose from when putting together this DVD, resulting in a digipak with almost four hours of material, divided over a double-DVD and a live audio CD.

Besides the obligatory concert, interviews and documentary, the DVD includes a video clip made exclusively for the occasion, titled "Light the Candles", a clip with a computer comedy animation and Wayne Hussey performing "Islands" together with a fan.

For those finding themselves in either South Africa, Ireland or the UK, there will also be a "Lighting the Candles" tour. Older fans might want to look into buying tickets for Johannesburg in July: with guitarist Rob Holliday on tour with Prodigy, Mark Gemini Thwaite returns for a two night special.

New electronic tunes from Gaymonkey

June 29 2005 | By: Mattias Huss (Åbo, Finland)

Swedish electronic music label Gaymonkey Records has a total roster of ten CD:s as of this summer, most of them featuring label manager Sara Berg and her prominent soul vocals.

Her rather straightforward, brass-infused new single "Another Night" includes a club mix by London based Canadian Melnyk, who also has a single out on Gay Monkey, the glitzy 80:s-tinted "Art of Seduction". Melnyks next single "Strut" is released in the UK on July 11.

All the artists on the label, started in 2003, contribute mixes of each others songs, which makes for some interesting cross pollination.

With a strong line-up - Nine Inch Nails (for the first time on Swedish soil), Marilyn Manson, Tori Amos, System of a Down, Slayer and many more - the festival was sold out well in advance and had over 31 000 visitors.

As you can read in Kalle Malmstedt's report, everyone was blown away by the beauty and power in Nine Inch Nails' show. Kalle, who has been reviewing numerous gigs throughout the years for a variety of magazines, cried and experienced one of his best concerts ever.

June 22 2005 | By: Johan Carlsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

I believe I can sing.

Rhys Fulber – known from Delerium and Front Line Assembly – has been working hard on his second solo album under the Conjure One moniker. It’s titled “Extraordinary Ways” and features ten tracks with a plethora of different guest singers, such as Chemda and Poe who also sang on his self-titled debut.

Newcomers behind the mic are Tiff Lacey and Joanna Stevens, and also Rhys himself! This and three more songs are showcased by Rhys on his Myspace music page and the label has sent us an album promo so expect an early Release review.

The album is out on Nettwerk on August 29.

Skinny Puppy DVD details and tour plans

June 20 2005 | By: Alex Veronac (Toronto, Canada)

Further details on the Skinny Puppy live tour 2DVD have been revealed since our news last month.

Along with 2004 tour footage on DVD 1, DVD 2 shows some archive footage of the 1992 "Last Rights" and 1990 "Too Dark Park" live tours. Two documentaries compliment the 81 minute long second disc with one shot by the band during their 1988 "Head Trauma Europe Tour" and the new "Information Warfare" segment.

"The Greater Wrong of the Right Live" (SPV Germany) has two hours of concert footage mainly from the Toronto and Montréal club gigs of November 2004 under the direction of William Morrison. The DVD set features all region play, widescreen, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround by Ken "Hiwatt" Marshall. The digipak casing is designed by longtime band collaborating album cover artist Steven R Gilmore. Sadly the cover art does not feature new or live photos of the band.

The band looks to play the UK prior to their M'era Luna Festival slot. They look to play Budapest's Sziget Festival in a first ever daylight set (!). Skinny Puppy will then continue to play more European dates in promotion of the new 2DVD release.
